Holy Week in the Quebrada de Humahuaca
The Virgin of Punta Corral comes down to Tilcara
In the Quebrada the week has its own calendar of faith. This was the 2026 program published by Jujuy's tourism office; the 2027 program is not out yet. If the pattern repeats, the descent to Tilcara would be on Wednesday, March 24, 2027.
From 7:00 a.m., the image of the Virgin of Punta Corral is carried down from her mountain sanctuary to the village of Tumbaya.
At 5:00 a.m. the descent toward Tilcara begins with sikuri bands (Andean panpipe bands) and pilgrims. In 2026 the image reached the church square in Tilcara at 8:30 p.m.
At nightfall, the Stations of the Cross through Tilcara's ermitas, the shrines the village sets up as the stations of the procession.
The processions are public, and Tilcara fills with pilgrims and visitors. With a driver you do not have to find parking or drive back to your hotel at night.

Salta airport (SLA) to your hotel, and transfers between bases if you move from Salta to Cafayate or the Quebrada during the weekend.
The minibus or 4x4 stays with your group over the long weekend and the driver takes you from village to village on your plan.

How far ahead should we book?
As soon as you have dates. In 2026 the main destinations of Salta were at 82.5% occupancy over the long weekend, and vehicles with drivers are booked for the same days.
Can we watch the procession in Tilcara?
Yes, it is public. We plan the day around the times Jujuy's tourism office publishes for 2027, and agree a meeting point with you for the ride back.
Do the drivers speak English?
Our drivers work in Spanish. We plan everything with you in English by email or WhatsApp, and an English-speaking driver can be requested, subject to availability. The driver is not a licensed guide.
